Research Existing Advert Campaigns

The aim of this advert campaign was to advertise female period products but with a different way to portray them. The whole video was based on interviewing different types of people, asking them to throw a ball or run 'like a girl'. Many of them done these movements in a very feminine style - almost acting useless, suggesting girls can't throw or run. They were then having discussions on how these stereotypes are offensive and that girls can do things however they want just like everyone else. It sent a message to the audience that girls are equal to men and are just as capable of sports, fighting and running.

The target audience is mostly toward girls to buy the products but is sending a message to everyone of all ages whilst doing it.

The print based advertisements used were posters to showcase the women's power and strength, sending the message that girls are not useless. The way the audio-visual and posters link creates a sense of teaching. As if the audience is being shown and taught a message on what women are actually like. They show strength and ambition in the posters compared to the useless acting in the video.

Legal Issues

Copyright:

What is copyright and how will you avoid this legal issues? - Copyright is legal right that protects the use of your work once your idea has been physically expressed. The current copyright legislation in the UK is the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. You can do many things with your copyright work including for example copy, change or sell it, share it online or rent it to someone as well as prevent other people from doing those things. To avoid legal issues, we will use non-copyrighted music in our edit as well as using sound effects that are either made by us or from a non-copyrighted.

Gaining permission for participants and locations (child models): We have printed model release forms for people involved in the video for them to sign if they are ok with being in the video. If they don't want to be in the video, they will not sign the paper. Children’s parents need to give permission for their child to be involved in the video by signing the form because exposing a child on video can have big consequences.

Why do you need to legally get permission for location and participants (especially child models)? f How will you avoid legal action on permission? We need legal permission from models and location owners so there are no legal action taken upon us after production. We especially need child model permission because exposing children to the internet and an audience can be dangerous and have huge consequences if no signed document for them is found. Avoiding legal action is done by using these permission letters that state

Why do you need Model Release forms? Model release forms are so that the management team for the project has legal permission forms signed from the people involved so that no legal action can take place against the production if they decide they don't want to be involved.

Ethical Issues

Misrepresentation

How have you covered and approached the issue to not misrepresent individuals or social groups? When going over the plan on what shots and angles we will film, we discussed who and what people can be doing in the scene. None of the models or people involved are planned to do anything inappropriate during scenes which could intern misrepresent them in the promo.

Offensive/Inappropriate Images:

Why do you need to be careful in using offensive/inappropriate images? How will you avoid offending people in your promo project? Using offensive imagery in the promo can cause the audience not only to stay away from the business but can also cause backlash on the production team, making complaints and getting angry. To avoid this, we will make sure all shots taken are respectful and appropriate for all audiences. If any shots or imagery is taken that can cause offence, it will either be deleted or blurred if used in the video.

Delicate themes and subject matter:

Why is it impotent to carefully consider delicate themes and subject matter in your promo?  This is important because we are making a promo video for a business who wants recognition and customers so if we have delicate themes or a touchy subject matter, it could affect the toll on the business and then our profit for he video.

The regulatory bodies of advertisement are the ASA that are responsible for regulating advertisements, the sales and direct marketing by searching and sorting complaints made, deciding whether the advert meets with the advertising codes.

Before writing an ad, the style, text, message, graphics and how you want the audience to interpret the advertisements all need to be planned. Not having ads can be better than having bad or unplanned ads which could cause more issues. Advertisements can be in the form of a range of media such as mail, magazines, newsletters, posters, television ads and web pages.
